The Railway Protection Force on Friday was able to detain a suspect in the case of knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan from a train at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh.
The Press Trust of India in its report revealed that the person detained has been identified as Aakash Kailash Kannojia (31) and he was traveling by Jnaneshwari Express which runs between Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) to Kolkata Shalimar.
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, was stabbed repeatedly by an intruder during a robbery attempt at his 12th-floor residence in Mumbai's Bandra area early Wednesday morning.
The actor is recovering from his injuries at the hospital after he went through a major surgery to remove the knife fragments from his body and repair other injuries. The team of doctors who are treating him said that he will have a 100 per cent recovery.
How Was The Suspect Nabbed In Chhattisgarh?
Mumbai Police had collected CCTV footage from a mobile shop in Dadar visited by the alleged suspect following the incident. "He purchased a pair of earphones for Rs 50," said Hasan, who works at the shop `Iqra' told PTI.
An RPF officer told PTI that the RPF Post Durg received information from Mumbai Police around 12.30 pm about the suspect in Saif Ali Khan stabbing case travelling by Jnaneswari Express, and shared the location of his mobile phone and his photo.
RPF Durg alerted its counterpart at Rajnandgaon station (which comes before Durg on Mumbai-Howrah route) but the suspect could not be located when the train halted there, the official added.
Two teams were kept ready at the Durg station, and on the arrival of the train, the suspect was found in the front general compartment.
His photo was sent to Mumbai Police who confirmed his identity, reportedly.
He was made to talk to police officials in Mumbai through video call. He was presently kept at RPF Post Durg, and a Mumbai police team would be reaching Chhattisgarh soon, officials said.
The intruder who attacked Khan had been captured in CCTV footage while going down a staircase at the actor's building after the incident.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai was asked to speak on the matter of the suspect being detained, he said, "Actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked some days ago and the suspect has been caught from Durg by RPF. Mumbai Police is coming and the suspect will be handed over to them."
The Mumbai Police had identified the intruder from the CCTV footage at Khan's residence on the night of the incident and later from the streets of Mumbai. A person was picked up by the officials on Thursday in suspicion of the case but after thorough questioning, they released him.
As per the statement given to police by staff nurse at Khan's residence who faced with the intruder first at the scene of the incident it is believed that the man was around 35 to 40 years old. The intruder not only attacked the actor but also staff nurse Eliyama Philip.
